installing was bit of a hassle.. my first one actually had smoke comming out of it... the replacement worked well.. my pc never went over 40C overclocking.. i would reccomend using this with artic silver and the two step cleaner for MAX results.. always keep it on setting 3... the fans are a bit loud


Corsair CWCH60 Review by RG

The H80 is excellent! It cools approximately as well as H100 and is much smaller/manageable. (Check out this review for specs: [...]) It is loud on power-up (it goes to 100% and then scales back) but becomes quiet quickly. I have my H80 over my i5-2500K in a Corsair 600T with dual HD 6950s and a 1000w PSU and it keeps my CPU cool. Usually runs around 18 - 25 C and haven't gotten anything higher than 35C when playing Crysis 2 or Portal 2 on ultra settings.

Installation is pretty easy as well. All in all, I'd recommend it to anyone interested in liquid cooling.

I have an i7 950 on an EVGA X58 FTW motherboard inside of an Antec 902 case with optional side window fan. I have overclocked the 950 to as high as 4.2ghz, completely stable. The max cpu temps while running LinX for 20 passes was 84c for the highest core. That is excellent performance for that high of an overclock considering it took 1.425 vcore to get there. I tested using 2 Coolermaster Blademaster fans setup as intake. Once I got stable at 4.2 I switched the fans around to exhaust and the highest core hit 86c. Only a 2c difference with it setup as exhaust. I am leaving it that way because overall pc temps were lower and there will be less dust to deal with. The 902 has excellent flow which is why the difference was so minimal. If your case doesn't have good flow then setting up the H60 as intake may give you much better cpu temps. Using the stock single Corsair fan gave @5c higher temps setup as intake than the push/pull Blademaster fans setup as exhaust. If you don't have a crazy overclock then the H60 and the single stock fan should be able to keep any processor cool. I am extremely impressed with how well it cools even with the single stock fan. Keeping an i7 950 at 4.2ghz with 1.425 vcore below 90c while stress testing is not easy.

I have since lowered my overclock to @4.0ghz so I can lower my vcore. I am now stable at 192x21 with 1.325 vcore. The highest single core temp I am now seeing is 73c. That is with the H60 setup as exhaust with the 2 Bladesmaster fans. That was after running P95 for over 10 hours! I got the same temps while running 20 passes of LinX.

I would like to upgrade to some quieter fans but I will wait until they go on sale. The Blademasters are about the same as the Corsair fan which makes sense since they look the same and have similar specs. I am using the Blademasters because I already had them from my 212+ cooler that the H60 replaced. I would love to pick up some Cougar fans but I don't want to spend $40.00 on two fans! The Blademasters have very similar specs to the stock Corsair fan and are a bargain at $8 a piece.

In terms of cons I do have a few.

1. Corsair should include the 4 extra scews to connect a second fan. They aren't expensive and they should just include them. Having to go to the hardware store to get 4 screws is a hassle but not that big of a deal.

2. The screws that secure the pump/cpu block to the cpu no longer have screwdriver slots like the instructions show. Corsair removed the slots because some people were overtightening them and breaking the bracket. I understand that some people did that but if you have limited space around your cpu socket it is very difficult to tighten them by hand. I ended up using a pair of needle nose pliers to tighten them. I understand that they don't need to be super tight but in my opinion slightly tighter than finger tight is required. If you move your pc around a lot and they are only finger tight they will probably loosen up over time. I snugged them down about 1/8th of a turn past finger tight using needle nose vice grips. Again, not that big of deal but having the screwdriver slots and better instructions saying to not overtighten makes more sense to me.

Now people will say you can get similar performance from a top of the line air cooler. That is true but the top of line air coolers are more expensive than the H60. They are also very heavy and take up a lot of realestate. I love having all that space around the northbridge, vreg and ram slots with the H60 installed. It looks cleaner and everything gets better airflow.

One thing I like about the H60 over the H80/H100 is that the fans for the H60 can be controlled using the motherboard fan controllers. The H80/H100 require opening the case to select which fan profile you want. I know the Corsair link is coming out soon that will change that but at what cost?

In my opinion the H60 is the best bargain of the H series coolers and will work well for almost everybody. The most extreme overclockers will want more performance and will go with the H100 or a real watercooling setup. I would have gone with the H80 for the larger radiator but it wouldn't fit in my Antec 902 because I am using a side window fan. If the H80 will fit in your rig and the price isn't too much more then get the H80 for even better performance than the H60. For the average overclocker and tweaker like myself the H60 is the best bang for the buck cooler on the market!
